I don't see that in their question.I understood the OP's situation as converting Vanguard MFs to their equivalent ETFs, in a taxable account (not IRA) at Vanguard. This is a completely different situation from yours, arising from Vanguard's special MF/ETF structure in which (for example) the MF VTSAX and the ETF VTI are two different share classes of the same underlying fund. Even if this takes place in a taxable account, it incurs no tax consequences, although one should make sure the cost basis of the MFs is correctly carried over to the ETFs.I did this recently. It was a bear to figure out […] We had held 3 Janus MFs for several decades. We decided to move them to Etrade since we were already familiar with the platform and wanted to switch to a SP500 ETF. It is a direct transfer or rollover (forget the exact term) so no taxes.
