Personal Investments • no bonds in retirement

Is the old assumption that bond provides ballast for portfolio true in last decade or two?
Bonds are short-term treasury bills, high-yield junk bond funds, municipal bonds, medium-term corporate bonds.

I’d rather have 75% stocks and 25% short-term treasuries than 60% stocks and 40% medium term corporate bonds, if I was looking for ballast. My 75% stocks may cause more overall volatility in my portfolio than a 60% allocation would. But my short-term treasuries are more stable than the medium-term corporate.
Yes, exactly! I think the virtues of Total Bond have been oversold around here.
