I can do that on the same day by entering two separate orders. First put in an order to sell $X of fund A, then put in a separate order to buy $X of fund B. Of course that won't work if you are selling in shares...or at least you would not be able to use 100% of the estimated proceeds for the buy order. I don't have margin, but that might be a way to get more flexibility if you want to sell in shares.Tax loss harvesting is not done on the same day at Schwab like it is at Vanguard, where you can sell one fund and put it an order to buy another fund immediately after, and have everything done that day.[
Cheers, thanks for the insight. Seems we have similar strategies. How do you like Schwab compared to Vanguard overall? Anything else I should at Vanguard before moving or think twice?
At Schwab, I have to sell on day 1, then buy on day 2, which is not ideal.
You can only do an exchange as a single transaction entry with Schwab funds at Schwab. I think this is the same at Vanguard, where you can only do this with Vanguard funds.
