Investing - Theory, News & General • Anyone still favor Vanguard?

I agree less is more and simple is better than complex. And that is part of what I liked about Vanguard. So what went wrong? Let's see:

- They pushed me to their brokerage platform which I find overly complicated and poorly designed. I like Fidelity's platform better. The old Vanguard mutual fund platform was the simplest and easiest to use, but they are taking that away from us.
- Major mistakes that I had difficulty getting corrected.
- A renewed focus on trying to push actively managed funds. Yes, the other firms do this, but Vanguard used to be different.
- Trying to push advisory services on me. Vanguard has put more pressure on me than other firms.
- Selling out their loyal clients/customers to Ascensus--worst firm I've dealt with, ever.
Keep in mind Vanguard ERs have dropped by around 90% over the past few decades. So it's a bit like a "loyal" barbershop customer who was willing to pay $50 for a haircut in the 1980s but only $5 today. With that in mind, it's not surprising to see some of the changes in your post.
Yes, but look at the ER of the Fidelity Zero Funds--much lower. Vanguard has improved its ERs, but Fidelity has beat them at their own game.

Plus all the best Vanguard funds have Vanguard ETF equivalents, which you can convert into without a tax hit, and then transfer to Fidelity. So you can enjoy your Vanguard investments with the superior platform and customer service of Fidelity.
Depends on the game - Vanguard MM rates are much higher than Fidelity, and I hold a lot of cash. And you can never transfer those Zero funds out from Fidelity like you can with Vanguard. I think you'll do fine at either place, but I keep my money at Vanguard because, having watched the behavior of both companies for 30 years, I trust them more.
Yes, that is a good point. I recommend holding the Zero funds only in tax-advantaged. If I need to move to another company, I can liquidate them without a tax hit. In other accounts I prefer Vanguard ETFs, so I can move them wherever I want without a tax hit.
