Sorry if this has been covered before, I'm pretty new to all of this, and not sure what to even search for in this forum. I am looking for some advice and best practices for managing our 401K and US investments now that we live in Portugal.
Here's our situation:
My wife and I are US citizens and legal residents of Portugal for the last 2 years. We are both in our late 50's and semi-retired (I still do freelance work, but haven't contributed to our 401K since retiring 2.5 years ago). We have a 401K from my previous employer held by Fidelity, and also a brokerage account with some additional savings. Our goal is to live off of savings and what I earn as a freelancer until retirement age.
Our Fidelity account, and our Schwab account (currently with no holdings) both have a US address, my brother in law's home. So far, I haven't touched the 401K since retiring, but I have pulled money out of the brokerage account as needed. My first goal is to understand how I can make changes to the investment mix in my 401K account. I also hope to learn about any thing I should (or should not) be doing in this situation.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!
