1. Cash: When it comes to cash, many people say it is a "drag."
In the humble opinion of this retired nurse who really doesn't know much, cash is good for a lot of reasons. It's a good diversifier in a rising-interest-rate environment, which we certainly have see of late. The future is absolutely unknowable and anything can happen again in the future. It's also good to hold for near-term and unexpected expenses.

Cash is a separate asset class and being retired for almost one year I hold about 15% of my portfolio in four- and eight-week Treasury Bills. Behaviorally, it also helps me sleep and night and keeps me from tinkering. The rest of my portfolio is held in US stock market index funds and intermediate-term treasury bond index funds.
