Personal Finance (Not Investing) • HOA Amendment to deny home rental.

Not many people in this thread considering that it's a 55 and over community.

There are both federal and state requirements for a senior community that don't exist for other HOAs.

For example, a certain percentage of residences (between 80-100%) must have one resident over age 55 and the HOA must have a process for verifying this. Additionally in California for example there are various complex rules for any other residents under age 55.

Without knowing what's in the bylaws already, if there are no renters now it seems it may be easier in the long run to prevent renters than to have a process to verify their eligibility. As well as, who wants to deal with the drama when you tell a homeowner "you can rent but not to this person."
